Resolutions 2008-2009 We the members of Seattle ACCW through our membership support, empower and educate Catholic women in Catholic spirituality, leadership and service. May we awaken to the needs of today regarding human beings, the unborn, the vulnerable and the oppressed. Dignity of Life from conception to natural death is the priority of our organization. May we awaken to other needs of our Church and Society in today’s world. CHURCH Whereas, Marriage, created by God, is both a human institution and a Christian sacrament between a man and a woman We resolve, that members of Seattle ACCW will stand in support of the institution of marriage by support and promoting those values which make marriage work: to encourage forms of education, communication, commitment, spirituality and a common faith. LEGISLATION Whereas, it is especially necessary in today’s world to be alert and educated on legislation that is contrary to our Catholic beliefs. We resolve to bravely continue prayer, works, marches and peaceful demonstrations to reach the hearts and minds of citizens and legislators on life principles. We resolve to encourage our state and federal legislators to create stem cell banks from morally acceptable sources, such as adult stem cells, umbilical and placenta blood retrievals and to cease promoting destruction of life to save another. We resolve to ask all legislators to continue special asylum programs for those under religious persecution in their native country. INTERNATIONAL Whereas, Catholic women want to improve the health and welfare of men, women and children throughout the world through education, desease prevention, health programs and income. We resolve that Seattle ACCW will support Catholic Relief Services (CRS) through the Madonna Plan, Water for Life, Help a Child Global Fund and Refugee Women Emergency Fund. We resolve that Seattle ACCW will support SERRV International in conjunction with CRS to market goods from “Work of Human Hands”. COMMUNITY Whereas, in our society we have vulnerable adults and children, especially CHILDREN AT RISK around the world. We resolve as Catholic women to petition hotels and encourage them to have a CODE OF CONDUCT. If the hotel refuses to enact a CODE OF CONDUCT, ask them why, and inform them that we will not patronize them until they do. We resolve to keep vigilant as to signs of sexual exploitation of children and will follow through on notifying the proper agencies. FAMILY Whereas, the family is the cornerstone for our society. The family is constantly under attack in today’s modern works. We resolve to educate and support families through our parishes, communities and the world. We resolve to encourage legislators to assist the needy, homeless, disabled, elderly and the ill in their plight. We ask legislators to provide adequate funds for social programs that will lift those out of deep impoverishment, starvation, homelessness, and catastrophic circumstances. We resolve to encourage all legislators to enact fair and compassionate immigration policies that promote legal entry and family re- unification. We ask them for policies that expedite and reward law-abiding workers and their legal efforts to become American citizens. |

| Prayer to Our Lady of Good Counsel God of heavenly wisdom, you have given us Mary, Mother of Jesus, to be our guide and counselor. Grant that we may always seek her motherly help in this life and so enjoy her blessed presence in the life to come. O Mother of Good Counsel, patroness of the National Council of Catholic Women, intercede for us that we may be wise, courageous, and loving leaders of the Church. Help us, dear Mother, to know the mind of Jesus, your Son. May the Holy Spirit fill us with reverence for God’s creation, and compassion for all of God’s children. May our labors of love on earth enhance the reign of God, and may God’s gifts of faith and living hope prepare us for the fullness of the world to come. We pray this through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen. |
